Digital Stories

A Digital Story can have all the attributes of a slide show. What sets it apart is that it has a direction and a story structure. At its most developed a digital story will include filmed material with children either capturing real events or playing out roles on video. The examples here will be the more simple type using still images.

Many aspects that are tackled as writing tasks can be transformed into Digital Stories and presented as a slide show.

Some examples are:
  • A narrative that has been written by the child.
  • A narrative that has been copied from a published book and re-illustrated and read by the children.
  • A sports report giving an overview of a match, e.g. football / netball.
  • The record of a science experiment that could include graph / chart / table slides.
  • A news report of an important event at school or locally.
  • A visual record of a project that has a definite beginning and end, e.g. the building of an extension at school or the development of a pond or garden area.

Producing the Digital Story

The methods of producing a Digital Story as a slide show are in almost all cases the same as is described in the Slide Show section. Some exceptions could be; the need to alter the timing of certain slides, the need to be able to alter the order of slides easily as the story is constructed.
